First ski day of the season.

So our season kicks off and as normal the first day skiing is not in Chamonix but in Verbier. Luckily the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass allows you 8 days over there throughout the season so we didn’t have to pay for a pass.

We were unable to get over to Verbier on Thursday due to the Col Du Montets being closed, and as we drove over today we began to see why. A meter of snow either side of the road on the Col had to be dug out in order for the road to be seen! There was a little ice on the way over, but by the time we came back the road was fine.

The conditions over in Verbier were not bad and also not too busy! The pistes were fine with only a couple of icy patches. There are a lot of tracks on the off piste, and if you are going to venture off, you need to be aware that there are still a lot of rocks under the snow and expect to hit something!
Lets hope that Grand Montets is as good tomorrow when it opens up for the first time this season, it is looking pretty good from the Col du Montets.
