Company Mont Blanc opened up Grand Montets and Les Houches this weekend following the big snowfall we had last week. There were large crowds at the bottom of Grand Montets, some waiting up to two hours to make sure they got that first cable car up!
Once at the mid station we could see the goods that the snowfall had left, patches of fresh powder scattered in between large rock fields! The pistes were not in too bad a condition to start with, but as the top sections had not been pisted, they turned into large mogul fields towards the afternoon. Some good fresh powder was to be had to the edge of the pistes, but as normal in Chamonix, that was not enough to keep people occupied! Quickly tracks emerged between all the rocks as Grand Montets got its familial powder scars back all over.
All in all a great day up the hill, good to see all the old faces again and ski a bit of powder too. Lets hope not too many people ruined their new skis or boards, save them for next week as we are expecting another big snowfall towards the end of this week! I can not tell you the conditions of Les Houches yet, but hope to get a change to go down there during this week.
